A Little About Our Wax
Soy wax is an environmental friendly candle, as the wax used is naturally both non-toxic and biodegradable. The only parts of a soy candle that keep it from being completely natural is any unnatural fragrances or dyes that may be added. We use all natural cut fragrance's unless noted otherwise.
You get a much longer burn time with soy wax because it burns cooler than paraffin and therefore slower. Because soy wax candles have a lower melting point it is important to remember to keep them away from heat sources such as direct sunlight or other bright lights. Temperature fluctuations can cause your soy wax candle to discolor and “sweat”. Do not worry if this occurs. You can quickly return your candle to normal by placing it in the refrigerator.
There is almost no soot or smoke created when you burn a soy wax candle. You can help to minimize any smoke by how you burn the candle. For optimum burning your wick should be properly maintained, including being trimmed to about ¼ of an inch after every burning. Be sure to remove the wax trimmings from the candle. It is always best to burn your candle away from any drafts.
Candles can be burned for too long a period of time, and it is recommended that soy candles receive no more than 4 hours of burn time per use. Candles that are burned for longer than that could end up with an unstable wick that falls into the wax melt pool. You will have a hard time burning your candle again after that happens. If your wick has not been properly trimmed after each use, burning your candle for too long could be dangerous. An excessive melt pool and high flames create very high temperatures that will cause even the heat safe glass of the container to break. If this happens you will have hot wax on your furniture, carpet, or possibly burn yourself or someone else.
While soy wax is easy to clean with soap and water, it should not be poured down the drain. Any wax product is capable of clogging your pipes when cool and hardened.
There are some characteristics that are unique to soy candles and do not have a negative impact on the way that they burn. A soy candle that has been produced without dyes will have an off white color to it, and many are produced using a lead free wick. There may be some variations of color, and natural fragrances may darken the wax to give it a pale yellow hue. You may notice a rustic looking crust on top of your soy candle. This will in no way effect how well your candle will burn. This is one of the unique characteristics of soy wax and completely natural. Another thing you may notice about your soy candle is some spots were the wax has adhered to the surface of the glass and appears wet. This is caused by the contraction and expansion of the wax in response to temperature variations.
As the candle burns, or as conditions in your room change, you will notice a change in the candle that does not impact its quality. In is important to know that soy candles are very sensitive to light so you will need to carefully choose the location where you are storing or displaying your candle. Soy candles should not be placed near heat sources, including sunlight or other bright lights.
Your candle can melt or freeze when exposed to different temperature conditions, something to definitely keep in mind if you are traveling with soy candles. When you start using soy candles we are sure that you will enjoy them so much you will never want to use paraffin again.
